MY FAMILY AND I HAVE LIVED IN ROSEMOUNT SINCE 2001. WE MOVED HERE FOR THE GREAT SCHOOLS, BEAUTIFUL PARKS AND TRAILS, AND THE SMALL TOWN FEEL. SINCE MOVING HERE, I HAVE BEEN VERY INVOLVED WITH VOLUNTEERING AND SERVING THIS COMMUNITY. I HAVE BEEN ON THE RAAA MASTER BOARD, LEADING THE “POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE” INITIATIVE. PAST PRESIDENT OF ROSEMOUNT FOOTBALL, BOYS BASKETBALL, AND NOW GIRLS BASKETBALL AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. MOST RECENTLY, I HAVE BEEN SERVING ON ROSEMOUNT’S CITY COUNCIL FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THIS EXPERIENCE. WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT OF POSITIVE GROWTH AND CHANGE IN THE “SPIRIT OF PRIDE AND PROGRESS” FOR THE RESIDENCES OF THIS GREAT CITY OF OURS.
What style of leadership would you bring to this position?
I BELIEVE IN SERVANT LEADERSHIP, THAT WE PRIORITIZE THE NEEDS OF OTHERS OVER OUR OWN NEEDS. I LEAD WITH POSITIVE INTENT, AND TRULY WANT TO HEAR AND VALIDATE OUR RESIDENTS THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS.
What would be your top three priorities if elected? How might these priorities be affected by the state's projected economic outlook?
A) TO GROW AND ENHANCE ROSEMOUNT-WELCOMING DOWNTOWN AND REDEVELOP KEY CORRIDORS INTENTIONALLY
B) CREATE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS-VIBRANT TRAILS AND PARKS
C) SUPPORT A CULTURE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE- TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION WITH STAFF AND THIS COMMUNITY
What do you consider the biggest challenge and conversely, the biggest opportunity in Rosemount?
OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS MAINTAINING THAT HOME TOWN FEEL, WHILE WE ARE GROWING AT A FAST PACE. OUR OPPORTUNITY, IS TO WORK WITH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OPEN SESSIONS, FEEDBACK, AND POSITIVE DISCUSSIONS ON WHAT “GOOD” LOOKS LIKE IN THIS AREA. MORE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS LIKE OUR: FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, LEPRECHAUN DAYS…..
Please characterize your perspective on the ideal collaboration between government and the business community when it comes to tackling challenges whether they be education, housing, or workforce development. Do you feel the outcomes of the 2023-2024 legislative session positively or negatively impacted that collaboration and our state's business climate?
HERE IN ROSEMOUNT, I THINK WE DO A REALLY SOLID JOB AROUND COLLABORATION WITH OUR LOCAL EDUCATORS, BUSINESSES, AND WORKFORCE. WE HAVE THIS MEETING ONCE A MONTH CALLED, “ONE ROSEMOUNT” WHERE WE DISCUSS HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER FOR THE POSITIVE GROWTH FOR ALL IN THIS COMMUNITY.
How would you characterize the business climate in Rosemount and what role do you think the city should have in attracting and retaining jobs and new businesses in Rosemount?
ROSEMOUNT IS A PLACE THAT EMBRACES NEW AND EXISTING BUSINESSES. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF WE HAVE ADDED: HOME DEPOT DISTRIBUTION CENTER, FRANA EXPANSION, SPRECTRO ALLOYS EXPANSION, AND A META DATA CENTER. ROSEMOUNT IS DESIGNATED A “SHOVEL-READY SITE”.
What are your strategies to address public safety challenges in your community?
PUBLIC SAFETY IS HIGH PRIORITY FOR ROSEMOUNT. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO HAVING THE CORRECT TRAINING, FACILITIES, AND THE BEST TEAM TO PULL THIS OFF. WITH THE ADDITION OUR NEW PD/PW FACILITIES, OUR OFFICERS WILL HAVE THIS TO HELP PRESERVE PUBLIC SAFETY IN THIS COMMUNITY.
What ideas do you have to address housing shortages and affordability?
ROSEMOUNT IS GROWING. WITH THAT GROWTH IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE MANY OPTIONS FOR MIXED USE AND HIGH DENSITY
DEVELOPMENTS THAT ENSURE OUR COMMUNITY MEET LOCAL NEEDS, FOSTERING SUSTAINABLE AND VIBRANT
NEIGHBORHOODS.
How would you work to improve transportation options in your community, including improved safety for transit riders, pedestrian/bike, and drivers alike?
MAINTAINING OUR ROADS AND TRAILS IS A CONTINUED PRIORITY. AS WE CONTINUE TO GROW, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO ADD INFRASTRUCTURE TO SUPPORT THIS.
Cities have addressed many ongoing needs with temporary, federal COVID relief dollars, what are your plans to ensure fiscal stability as these federal, one-time funds run out?
OUR STAFF IN ROSEMOUNT DO A WONDERFUL JOB AND MAINTAINING OUR AA+ CREDIT RATING WHILE WE CONTINUE TO GROW.
Uber/Lyft wages and proposed childcare subsidies funded by local property taxes are just a few areas where local units of government are wading into policy debates that may be best suited at the state. Please articulate the different scopes of work between state and local government (City/County). Are there specific areas of policy that the city should lead on in lieu of the state or county government?
I BELIEVE IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONTINUE TO WORK CLOSELY WITH OUR STATE AND COUNTY PARTNERS.
