Formal education: BS, Secondary Education; Masters Degree, Business Administration
Experience: University of St. Thomas, 21 years as an academic advisor and adjunct professor in Evening MBA Program.
Accomplishments: Led and chaired student groups, faculty and staff meetings and external university partners. Mentored high potential at risk students to complete their degree and held board positions in various volunteer organizations,
What would be your top three priorities if elected?
Continued development and completion of the River Bluff Center on Hwy 13.
Keeping potential tax increases at a minimum for the residents of Lilydale.
Maintaining Lilydale’s relationship with contracted services of Mendota Heights Police and Fire Departments.
How would you characterize the business climate in Lilydale and what is the role of businesses supporting quality of life issues in the community?
I would characterize the business climate in Lilydale as vibrant and stable. I feel the businesses role in the community is to create and sustain meaningful employment which ultimately supports the community.
What role do you think the city should have in attracting and retaining jobs, and what steps would you take to solicit new businesses to and retain existing businesses in, Lilydale?
Lilydale continues to showcase our beautiful community through the city’s website and a very informative newsletter.
What policies, if any, would you support to help employers address the labor shortage?
If appropriate assist and/or co-sponsor a job fair.
Do you support any specific employment-related proposals in Lilydale (such as minimum wage, sick time, or mandatory scheduling notice)? If so, what steps would you take to understand the impact of an ordinance on the many types of businesses in Lilydale and how would you define any exceptions to those policies?
As a city council member I would always champion employee and employer relationships within our community. Also, if city intervention was warranted, I’m confident the council and mayor would assist both.
Public safety and rising crime rates are of serious concern to the business community and residents. What strategies or policies would you propose to address public safety issues facing your community?
Lilydale has a strong, cooperative relationship with the Mendota Heights Police and Fire Departments who keep the city council informed regarding safety issues. The council has the utmost faith in their strategies and policies.
What strategies or policies would you propose to address housing issues facing your community?
With the redevelopment of of the River Bluff Center, housing issues are currently being addressed.
What strategies or policies would you propose to address transportation issues facing your community? Have your strategies or views changed on transportation since we’ve seen shifts in road use, public transportation use, work from home models, etc. due to the pandemic?
With the assistance from Dakota County and the State of Minnesota, Lilydale’s main thoroughfare, bike and walking trails are monitored for safety and proper maintenance.
What are your priorities for the City’s budget?
By making sure the budget priorities continue to address contract commitments, debt payments, and projects that reflect our community’s vitality.
What will you do to expand Lilydale’s tax base?
Always encourage new new businesses to open and/or relocate to Lilydale.
How will you work with K-12 and post-secondary educational institutions and businesses to ensure our region develops and retains an educated workforce?
Encourage our local businesses to provide intern and mentorships for post-secondary students.
Are there any services currently provided by the city that you believe should be cut back or eliminated? Are there new opportunities to share services with other entities?
Services to cut back or eliminate. - No
Opportunities to share services should be explored if beneficial to all parties.
What is the role of the City Council in fostering increased minority- and women-owned businesses in Lilydale?
The City Council’s role could be to reach out to minority and women owned businesses in Lilydale to encourage their peers to also begin a business or relocate a business to Lilydale.
What further policies can Lilydale adopt to help the business community recover from the COVID-19 pandemic?
In a small community such as Lilydale, encouraging our residents to shop locally when possible is extremely important to our economy.
