Candidate Bio
I am a retired life long Merriam Park resident. I volunteered to serve in Vietnam and lived a successful career in the computer field working with many Fortune 500 companies.
What style of leadership would you bring to this position?
Transformational
What would be your top three priorities if elected?
Reduce Crime, Support Single Family Homeownership and Eliminate RCV Elections.
What do you consider the biggest challenge and conversely, the biggest opportunity in St. Paul?
Stemming the outflow of jobs and productive citizens. We have a real opportunity to replace the entire city council with members that will put the citizens first and make the changes needed to make St. Paul a great place to live for everyone.
How would you characterize the business climate in St. Paul and what role do you think the city should have in attracting and retaining jobs and new businesses in St. Paul?
From what I have seen, St. Paul is not friendly to business or families.
What are your strategies to address public safety challenges in your community?
More police on the streets, enforcement of the law, prosecution of offenders. We must bring back 'school resource officers' who are being hamstrung by new state law. On August 30, MPR reported Sheriffs and Police departments are pulling these resources, endangering students' health and impacting their education.
What ideas do you have to address housing shortages and affordability?
Single family homes being replaced with high density structures is my housing concern.
St. Paul candidates only: Do you support the rent stabilization ordinance in its current form? If not, what would you like to change?
I am opposed to the 'rent stabilization ordinance and will vote to repeal it.
How would you work to improve transportation options in your community, including improved safety for transit riders, pedestrian/bike, and drivers alike?
I would do an overlay on Summit Ave, paint the bicycle lanes green, then fill all the potholes in all of our streets to reduce accidents citywide.
What will you do to expand St. Paul’s tax base?
Work to make St. Paul business friendly.
Are there any services currently provided by the city that you believe should be cut back or eliminated? Are there new opportunities to share services with other entities?
We can start by ending 'all in' trash collection and allow private companies back into the business so we don't we send our money to New York, anymore.
