Candidate Bio
Roseville has been my home since 1986. I was raised in Bloomington, MN. I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota. I started my graduate work at the U in Real Estate and Land development. My background is in New Construction Management and Sales, working for builders and developers in the Twin Cities and Chicago, IL.
My Father was a veteran of WWII having earned a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart with a Oak Leaf Cluster. He raised his family to make a commitment to your Country. I feel it is an honor to run for Roseville City Council and to serve my country and community.
I have been substitute teaching in 5 school Districts, mainly in Roseville, and St. Paul. Having a first hand opportunity to see how a small part of our schools function, we must insure the highest education standards in effort the children of our community have a properous future and are prepared to work succerssfully.
I have no pedigree to offer to be a councilwomen other then hard work, ready to learn the community needs and to represent the citizens of Roseville. I will meet and talk with citizens about the commuity needs finding pathways to resolve any issues successfully.
What would be your top three priorities if elected?
1. Economic development to include investing into green jobs of the future, to include protecting the envoirment with the green jobs.
2. Developement/Redevelopment and renewal of exisiting and vacant lands to diversify housing and business needs.
3. Generate new and forward thinking ideas for a diverse Roseville of the future. Calling for a Public Safety and Fire Department funded with the latest technology including more mental health workers.
How would you characterize the business climate in Roseville and what is the role of businesses supporting quality of life issues in the community?
Roseville has a thriving business climate, attracking residents and visitors to the area. Roseville can offer many ammenities to their citizens, visitors and potential citizens. Due to the thriving business community we have a strong tax base that allows the city to provide quaility of life ammenities. Attracking new and existing business to become involved in community activites would also improve the citizens quality of life. We need a forum to enable business to invest in the community someway.
What role do you think the city should have in attracting and retaining jobs, and what steps would you take to solicit new businesses to, and retain existing businesses in, Roseville?
A strong bussiness community is the heart of a cities prosperity. Our business community is diverse, calling for the city to partner with business to facilitate growth in the job market through innovative practices ensuring employment for citizens from teenagers to seniors.
I would promote senior jobs as many are not prepared for retirement and need supplemental income to have food on their table. One can see many seniors working in the businesses in our community.
Depending on the amount of development and redevelopment we can offer an alternative to businesses seeking to leave the cities due to our convient location to major highways. Developing an outreach program to developers and businesses for land opportunties in the city for businesses to establish a new home in Roseville.
Roseville needs to retain existing businesses and attrack new business. I will be a strong advocate working along side the business community and the city council to actively facilitate Rosevilles' strong economice future
What policies, if any, would you support to help employers address the labor shortage?
We need to ensure Rosevilles' businesses have trained potential employees. The city can partner with businesses and schools in the area to help achieve the goal through job fairs, helping potential employees find the porper training and employment opportunties Holding forums consisting of the city, businesses and potential employees to find innovative ideas, and new benefical policies to gaurantee an aboundant labor force.
Do you support any specific employment-related proposals in Roseville (such as minimum wage, sick time, or mandatory scheduling notice)? If so, what steps
would you take to understand the impact of an ordinance on the many types of businesses in Roseville and how would you define any exceptions to those
policies?
The Minnesota State legislator is the entity governing labor laws.I personally support many employee protective laws. I do not want to put Roseville's employees opportunties at a disadvantage; where an employee will go to a neighboring community to avoid or to recieve advantages/disadvantges in labor laws. The State of Minnesota must have uniform labor laws to protect the prosperity of each community.
Public safety and rising crime rates are of serious concern to the business community and residents. What strategies or policies would you propose to address public safety issues facing your community?
I believe there are 2 courses to pursue, long term and short term. Roseville needs to develope neighborhood by neighborhood Public Safety/resident relationships. We need to create programs where the police are not ask to handle situation they have not been trained to do such as extreme mental health issues. It is an unfair burden to ask the police to adequately handle the dramatic situations mental health can create. We need to expand funding for the public safety department in efforts they can provide the best technology available to enhance their proection of our citizens, and to address the raise in of crime and mental health issues in our area. Our citizens need to know the public safetly department and the public safety department needs to know the citzens.
Embeding mental health professionals in higher numbers could be another short term solution.
What strategies or policies would you propose to address housing issues facing your community?
Housing is an issue no matter where one resides. Having been in the housing industry for years I believe the best policy is to work with builders and developers with opportunities in land development and housing. We need diversity in housing and need to stay abreast of the demographic changes that are occuring in society as a whole.
What strategies or policies would you propose to address transportation issues facing your community? Have your strategies or views changed on transportation since we’ve seen shifts in road use, public transportation use, work from home models, etc. due to the pandemic?
Transportation is transforming. The millennials are choosing alternative modes of transportation, the one person one cars is diminishing. A flourishing city has public transportation for all ensuring life does not stop because you can't get there. Roseville must have equity in public transportation. How we accomplish this, may need re-visting to meet the changing demographics in transportation.
What are your priorities for the City’s budget?
I am a firm advocate for green jobs for the future. It is the future. It is a financial commitment, the pay-off could be great. Studies need to be done if not already done. Secondly we must provide funds for Public safety. We need to be mindful not to exceed our funding footprint as inflation is on the horizon if not already here,
What will you do to expand Roseville’s tax base?
Taking the advantages of the location of our city we need to expand and enhance development and redevelopment of properties. Activingly seeking land developers and builders to educate them on what the city can provide in opportunties in the city. Roseville has easy accessibility to both major cities we have to advertise to the buildling community we want their bussiness in our beautiful diverse city!
How will you work with K-12 and post-selennialscondary educational institutions and businesses to ensure our region develops and retains an educated workforce?
Roseville has been know for their quaility of schools. We as a city need to support our schools in anyway possible even though the schools are governed by the school districts. Having parents wanting their children educated in the Rosevilles chools should be the ultimates goal. This achievement will attrack new residents and new business resulting in a higher tax base. How we do this without having governing authority is challenging. We can bring schools and businesses together through joint-adventures, i.e. job fairs, apprenticeships, schools sponsering a day with "such and such" business. We could also create think groups for new and innovative ideas to provide businesses with a highly-educated work force.
Is there anything else you would like to share with voters not covered above?
